WASHINGTON, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall for repairs of 670 private resident ThyssenKrupp elevators due to a fall hazard.
The elevator door can unlock and swing open without the elevator car present, which leaves an open shaft that threatens consumers, the commission said in a statement.
The elevators were made by ThyssenKrupp Access Manufacturing LLC of Roanoke, Ill. The names of the recalled elevators are LEV II, Volant and Rise.
No injuries have been reported.
The elevators were all installed in homes with three or more floors. The model numbers for recalled elevators are 'RLWL,' for the LEV II brand, 'RLGL' for the Volant brand and 'RLRC' for the Rise brand.
The model numbers are found on the owner's manual and at the top of the elevator's controller, which is mounted at the top of the elevator in the hoistway or shaft, the commission said.
